Kindergarten through 4th grade students visit the library each week for one 30 minute library class. 5th and 6th graders have library class for 60 minutes, every other week. Due to the limited time allocated, students will not necessarily have instruction in each content area listed below, every year. Content of lessons varies depending on needs of the students, instruction that supports regular classroom instruction, new district resources, etc.
Level One - Grades K, 1, 2
- Understands and uses circulation procedures.
- Use proper care with materials
- Experience a variety of genres and types of books that support the Curriculum Framework .
- Develop literature appreciation.
- Receive an introduction to research process.
- Explore electronic information retrieval systems.
- Develop awareness of multimedia technology.
- Understand parts of a book.
Level Two - Grades 3,4.5
- Understand organizational system of the Library.
- Increase competence and independent use of the Library.
- Explore a variety of genres and types of books that support the Curriclum Framework.
- Develop literature appreciation.
- Use the research process.
- Use electronic retrieval systems to access a variety of information.
- Become familiar with current multi-media technology and production.
- Use a variety of informational sources.
Level Three - Grades 6, 7, 8
- Use Library sources independently.
- Become familiar with junior high library facility and resources.
- Continue to explore a variety of genres and types of books that support the Curriculum Framework.
- Continue to use the research process.
- Explore a variety of search techniques.
- Use electronic retrieval systems to access relevant information from a variety of sources.
- Use increased variety of telecommunication technology.
