Welcome to the Blackwell Library!
Library Program Mission: To ensure that students are effective users of ideas and information.

Your Library Staff:

Mrs. Pazaski: Teacher-Librarian

Mrs. Robinson: Instructional Assistant

The Teacher-Librarian encourages and supports lifelong learning and literacy by maintaining an up-to-date diverse collection of materials in a variety of formats, by teaching research and information skills which result in self-reliant and critical users of information, by promoting a love of reading and by supporting curriculum with instruction and resources.

About Our Library
The Blackwell Library is a great place for students to read, learn, explore, and have fun! Here are some "statistics" about our library.
Author Visits
We are fortunate to have real authors occasionally visit our school to inspire our students with their reading, writing, illustrating, and life skills.
Birthday Book Club
The Elizabeth Blackwell Birthday Book Club provides a lasting way to celebrate your child’s birthday, or any special occasion, by donating a new book to our school library.
Book Fair
Each year our library staff and PTA sponsor a Scholastic Book Fair to promote the love of reading. The students really enjoy this annual event and all proceeds support our library.
Checkout Policy
Our checkout policy varies depending on which grade level the student is in.
Children's Reading Rights
Dr. Peggy Sharp wrote the following considerations for selecting children's books and what children should have to say about the books they read. She is one of the foremost experts in North America on children's literature and literature programs.
Library Class Curriculum
In the LWSD library program, at the end of each level, students should have had experience with each critical content area. Students will not necessarily have instruction in each content area every year.
Library Class Policies
These rules and class expectations are reviewed at the beginning of the year, and periodically as needed.
Online Resources
Here is a list of websites that students may use at school or at home. Educational games may only be played during free time, such as recess, and students must stay on approved sites.
Read Across America
Each year we celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday, which is March 2nd.
Report Cards
All specialists in the Lake Washington School District assess students for effort, using the following rubric.
Works Consulted
In LWSD, elementary students should follow this introduction to the Modern Language Association (MLA) format for crediting sources in your papers.
