How is the Lakeview PTSA budget created?
The Lakeview PTSA Ways & Means Committee works throughout the school year to make sure all the financial goals of the Lakeview PTSA are met for the current fiscal year. This committee meets quarterly to review the budget, see that the PTSA raises the money it needs, spends the money it makes, and drafts a budget for the next school year.

This draft is reviewed by the Lakeview PTSA Board of Directors and then presented to the general membership at the June meeting. Most of this meeting is spent discussing the proposed budget – the Ways & Means committee explains any changes and answers questions. A preliminary operating budget is approved at that meeting and a final operating budget is voted on at the next September meeting.

The preliminary operating budget for the next school year will be posted on this website and the PTSA bulletin board no later than one week after it has been approved.

Who is on the Ways & Means Committee? Can I join?
The members of the Ways & Means Committee are: one of the PTSA Co-Presidents, the PTSA Treasurer or one of the Co-Treasurers, the VP of Fundraising and 4-5 non-Board members. No person can serve in the same position on this committee for more that two years in a row.

We ask for volunteers for the non-Board committee positions at our September meeting. If you are interested in joining and can’t make the meeting please contact one of the Co-Presidents and let them know of your interest. Once the committee is formed at the September meeting we don’t accept new members until the next school year.

This committee meets about 4 times a year during the school year. Generally, the first two meetings are a chance for new committee members to take an in-depth look at the budget and ask questions. The second two meetings are spent reviewing requests for funds and drafting a budget for the next school year. Meetings take place at a convenient time for all the members on the committee.

How can I request PTSA funding for something new? What if I need more funds for a program or activity already in the budget?
The Ways & Means Committee is always happy to hear about new programs, events or activities to support; requests can come from Lakeview staff or PTSA members. We also want to know if current funding is no longer enough to support an activity or program.

Please fill out a PTSA Project Request Form and turn it in to the PTSA inbox. The more details you provide the better.

According to our Standing Rules, additional requests for funds or reallocation to the budget shall be approved in the following manner:

$0-$100 – by any two Executive Committee members

$101-$500 – by a majority vote of the Executive Committee

$501-$1000 – by a majority vote of the Board of Directors

$1001+ - by a majority vote of the General Membership in attendance at a General Membership meeting

Because of this, the amount of time required to approve a request will vary depending on the amount requested. A vote by the Board or the General Membership can only take place at a meeting.

Still have questions?
Please contact the PTSA Co-Presidents. We are happy to explain further and answer questions – whether you are a committee head or staff member wondering about your specific budget, or just have a general interest in the PTSA budget.
