Hi there! My name is Jaime Maxie and I joined the Kamiakin family last year as a school counselor. In my role as a counselor, I am here to advocate for all Kamiakin students in providing the social, emotional, and behavioral support they need to be successful in school.
I grew up in a small town near Mt. St. Helens called Toledo. When I say “small” I mean population of 653 as of the 2000 census. J After graduating from high school, I moved on to another small town (yet bigger than my hometown), Ellensburg, Washington, where I earned a B.A. in Elementary Education with a Minor in Special Education. Upon graduating from Central Washington University, I moved to the Seattle area and got my first teaching job as a Special Education teacher. I spent my first four years in education teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students with disabilities and the following four years teaching 6th grade Language Arts, Social Studies, and Reading. During my first two years in Special Education, I also worked on earning a Master’s Degree in Guidance and School Counseling at City University, completing the degree in June of 2001. In October of 2006, I began the Educational Administration program at Western Washington University and will complete the program in June of 2009.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Rodney, and my 15 year-old step-daughter, Alexis. I also enjoy spending time with our family and friends, listening to music, going for walks, camping, playing the piano, scrapbooking, and surfing the internet.
I am very excited to be a part of such a wonderful student and staff community here at Kamiakin Junior High School! Please call, email, or stop by any time!
